1. It is an honour for me to be present here in today’s discussion meet. December 14 holds profound significance in the history of Bangladesh, symbolizing the unwavering spirit and sacrifices that paved the way for the liberation and sovereignty of Bangladesh. I pay my respects to all the martyred souls who made their ultimate sacrifice for the independence of Bangladesh. This day is particularly dedicated to the martyred intellectuals who were taken away from us far too soon, yet left an indelible mark on the fabric of our societies.

2. The Liberation War of Bangladesh stands as a testament to the unbreakable resolve of its people and the unwavering support extended by India. It was a pivotal moment in our shared history, where the values of justice, freedom, and self-determination prevailed against all odds. India stood shoulder to shoulder with Bangladesh during its struggle for independence, offering both moral and material support. The bloodshed and sacrifices of those times continue to remind us of the importance of safeguarding our hard-earned freedoms and the sanctity of human rights.

3. Today, as we reflect on our past, we also celebrate the robust and ever-evolving relationship between India and Bangladesh. Our bilateral ties have transcended mere diplomatic exchanges; they are deeply entrenched in multifaceted cooperation across various sectors. The recent years have witnessed remarkable progress in trade, connectivity, culture, and people-to-people exchanges, further strengthening the bonds of friendship between our nations.

4. The inauguration of numerous development projects, joint ventures, and collaborative efforts in infrastructure, energy, and technology sectors reflects our shared commitment to mutual growth and prosperity. India remains committed to supporting Bangladesh's socio-economic advancement, fostering sustainable development, and ensuring regional stability.

5. Looking ahead, the future of India-Bangladesh relations holds immense promise. We envision a future built on mutual respect, trust, and a shared vision for a prosperous and harmonious South Asia. Our partnership will continue to grow, exploring new avenues for collaboration while nurturing the existing ties that bind us together.

6. As we commemorate the Martyred Intellectual Day, and also the Victory Day on 16 December 2023, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding the values of freedom, democracy, and peace. May the sacrifices of the past inspire us to forge ahead with determination and solidarity, fostering a brighter future for our nations and the entire region.
