Ladies and Gentlemen,

1. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all for this special evening commemorating the 52nd anniversary of the Maitri Diwas—a significant milestone in our shared history. This day marks India's recognition of Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign nation.

2. Maitri Diwas signifies the genesis of a partnership rooted in equality, mutual respect, and unwavering solidarity—a proud moment symbolizing India's steadfast support for Bangladesh's struggle for freedom. Occasions like today prompt reflection upon our collective achievements and serve as an opportunity to renew our commitment to further fortify our partnership in the future.

3. In the past five decades, Bangladesh has made remarkable strides, gaining global recognition for its progress and human development indicators—a testament to the sacrifices of those who sacrificed everything for liberation.

4. The journey of India and Bangladesh since 1971 has been one of mutual trust and cooperation. Both nations stand as burgeoning economies, forging ahead with ambitions for a better future and also paving the way for enhanced cooperation and fresh opportunities.

5. The leadership of both countries remains dedicated to elevating our partnership to newer levels. Our multifaceted bilateral relationship extends across various domains—ranging from traditional areas like trade, commerce, and security to newer sectors such as clean energy, IT, and space. The recent visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India for the G20 summit as a special guest reaffirmed our commitment to use Bangladesh’s valuable experiences to advance global efforts for collective well-being.

6. India is an unwavering development partner of Bangladesh, with credit lines exceeding 8 billion dollars—over 80% dedicated to infrastructure and connectivity projects. Additionally, our High Impact Community Development Projects in Bangladesh significantly contribute to grassroots socio-economic development. The recent introduction of Rupee-Taka trade has also given a strong boost to our bilateral trade.

7. Connectivity remains an important component of our bilateral partnership. The inauguration of the Khulna-Mongla port line and the Akhaura Agartala rail link will provide a strong impetus to the people-to-people ties and further our commercial ties.

8. The Liberation of Bangladesh reshaped South Asia's political and ideological landscape—affirming that cultural, linguistic, and civilizational ties form stronger bonds than anything else. Your struggle underscored the triumph of truth and justice over oppression.

9. Our friendship, rooted in the sacrifices of the Liberation War and guided by the ideals of Bangabandhu, remains eternal. Our soldiers fought side by side with the Muktijoddhas. India stood by Bangladesh in 1971 and remains committed to walking together toward greater prosperity. Our partnership has seen significant strides, especially in the last decade. We are resolute in building upon this foundation and preserving our shared history for future generations.

Thank you.

Jai Bangla, Jai Hind!
Long live India-Bangladesh Maitri!
