HC’s Remarks at Tree Plantation Ceremony by Shurer Dhara

1. My sincere thanks to Shurer Dhara for their very kind invitation for this Brikkhoropon Utshob, in the midst of such a melodious rendition of Robindro Shongeet and joined by so many dignitaries, music enthusiasts and environmental advocates. It is a great initiative and I am truly delighted to be a part of it.

2. Allow me to begin by reaffirming the warm and enduring friendship that exists between the peoples of India and Bangladesh. Our two nations share not only geographical proximity but also deep cultural, historical, and economic ties nurtured over generations. The mutual empathy of our people and the shared sacrifices of 1971 bind us together in an enduring bond of friendship. Our partnership today is a testament to the power of collaboration, mutual understanding and mutual respect, as well as a reflection of our shared belief that our progress and prosperity are interlinked.

3. Our cultural connection and our shared cultural legacy, such as the tradition of Robindro Shongeet, are strong binding forces that transcend many other facets of our relations. And therefore, Shurer Dhara and organizations like them deserve our special thanks for playing such a vital role in fostering cultural dialogue and artistic interactions, and enriching people-to-people connection.

4. Speaking of connections, it is worth noting the broader global context in which we live. India and Bangladesh are not just bilateral partners; we are also responsible global actors striving for progress, stability, and sustainable development across the world.

5. During India’s G-20 presidency this year, we have invited Bangladesh as a guest country for G20. The summit is going to be held in New Delhi next week and we are eagerly looking forward to welcome Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

6. In the spirit of collective collaboration under G20, India counts on the support of Bangladesh and other partners to address some of the pressing issues that affect us all, whether it is the threat of climate change or the impediments to inclusive growth or the dangers to public health, or the scourge of terrorism. Our global outlook and the universalism we espouse are reflected in the motto of our G20 Presidency – Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.

7. Environmental conservation and co-existence with nature are among the key focuses of our G20 agenda. And therefore, to me, today’s tree plantation ceremony has added significance. It is not just imbued with symbolism, but is a concrete step toward preserving our planet for future generations. By planting these saplings, we are sowing the seeds of a greener and more sustainable future.

8. As we join this Brikkhoropon Utshob, let us also celebrate the spirit of friendship and cooperation that binds our two countries together. Let us continue to invest in cultural exchange and collaboration to strengthen our ties. And let us redouble our efforts to protect and preserve our environment, recognizing that the challenges we face today are global in nature and require collective action.

9. Thank you once again for having me here today. My best wishes to Shurer Dhara for its continuing contributions to our shared journey of progress and harmony.
